twenty students who’d had enough.
The melting cold of early spring gives rise to a
Revolution.
The air is chilly and charged with energy. The wind
stabs through our jackets
like frozen lightning.
Heads and homemade signs are held high, proud, and defiant.
Most of us are in the street, near where the president takes their oath.
But a brave few stand on brown rooftops.
Chanting and
Yelling with the rest of us.
Students, teachers, and celebrities
larger than life. All stand on a large platform at the end of the road.
Giving speeches and songs.
Cries of “Enough is Enough” start up
between speakers.
It’s a Rally in every sense of the word.
You can feel the camaraderie like the ache is our feet.
Like the glare of the sun in our eyes.
You can feel it in the huddled crowd of 200,000.
You can feel it on the subway, bound for third and 12th.
Packed with blue and white t-shirts, worn like armor. Like a uniform.
You can feel it in the free donuts given to everyone waving a sign.
The deep feeling of Community that only comes from being part of a Movement.
